Church

There are numerous, simple white buildings with their tall steeples and crosses scattered throughout this country. Suffering from famine, political oppression, or religious persecution, America presented a chance to start anew for a variety of people. Many newcomers moved westward across the frontier eventually settling in the vast wilderness. They were the typical settlers with canvas-topped wagons drawn by strong oxen.† These early pioneers were disciplined, spirited, industrious, and self-sacrificing. There was no work was too hard when it came to providing for their families and their communities. Often, churches arose following a gift of land by the landowner. The buildings themselves erected by volunteers in the community. What celebrations must have taken place, when communities had their own church!†
